Exercise Bike
An exercise bike is slightly different style of bicycle than your standard bike. For starters it doesn’t really go anyway. Another name for these bikes is the stationary bike, because the bike is meant to be ridden in place. It has a stand where the front fork should be; and a wheel in the back that can provide adjustable resistance. The funny thing is that the wheel in back doesn’t touch the ground, there’s a stand back there for use as well.
Some avid bikers don’t see the point in an exercise bike. Half the fun of cycling, so they say, is the places it takes you. What about the inner city dweller though? It’s hard to work up a good heart rate when you’re stopping every block for lights. And being scared to death by near misses with passing automobiles doesn’t qualify as an exercise related heart rate increase.
These are the people for which an exercise bike makes sense. The bikes are also perfect for the people who are extremely busy. Do you have an hour to study for that next exam? Do the studying while pedaling a stationary bike! You’ve just doubled your productivity by staying active while studying. That would be impossible to do on a bike that moves. Beyond the balancing act, you kind of need to pay attention to where you’re going on a moving bike.
